Q. What was St. Joseph's occupation? 

A. The Greek word "τεκτων" (or tekton) was used to describe the trade of Jesus' father has come to be translated as carpenter, builder or artisan. (In fact, Mark 6:3 also refers to Jesus, himself, as a "τεκτων.") Joseph may have been very skilled at ornate woodwork or he may have been a construction worker. He also may have worked with wood, iron, or stone.
