"Asian Unity Day"
October 27, 2009
The Year for Priests
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As you all know, the archdiocese is a patchwork of cultures and ethnic groups. This multicultural diversity and richness offers a variety of spiritual expressions and increased vitality to our prayer and worship.
With that in mind, please allow me the opportunity to invite you to Asian Unity Day, November 15, at St. Martin of Tours Parish, Franklin. The gathering time and musical prelude begin at 1 p.m., with Mass at 1:30 p.m. and an authentic Asian meal and cultural program to follow. Please share this information with others.
This gathering is an excellent opportunity for you to experience, firsthand, the beauty of many Asian cultures. It provides time to pray together and meet with community leaders and young adults from our Asian communities in southeastern Wisconsin. I am so thankful for all of those who have been involved in planning this event. I sure hope that many of you come out to St. Martin’s to enjoy this event.
You may also be interested in learning a related tidbit regarding World Mission Sunday that we celebrated two weeks ago. The Bishop of Kontum, Vietnam, celebrated World Mission Sunday by announcing that 30,000 people from his region became Catholic last year. Vietnam has some six million Catholics who comprise eight percent of the total population of the country.
Finally, I am sure that many of you are seeing and hearing reports from the secular press about the imminent announcement of our new archbishop. Please keep in mind that the secular press—and even the Catholic press, for that matter—do not know who will be our next archbishop or even when he will be chosen. That’s why we pray—God knows. It will be revealed in God’s good time.
Faithfully in Christ,
Most Reverend William Patrick Callahan
Archdiocesan Administrator
Archdiocese of Milwaukee
