"Spring"
April 21, 2010
Year for the Priest
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It certainly does feel like spring. The temperature is a bit warmer, we are shedding our extra layers of clothes, flowers are blooming and trees are covered with fresh green leaves. I’ve also noticed more joggers outside, as well as people who simply want to enjoy the outdoors.
With spring comes that sense of newness. We seem to be awakening; clearing out that sluggishness that follows a long hibernation. Creation surrounds us, and we are more aware of God’s beauty in it.
Soon, many will be planning vacations and those most important days of relaxation and fun. I’ve even noticed how my own personal batteries are recharged by a brief encounter with nature and the great outdoors.
Our spiritual life needs that same type of fresh beginning. As we experience our physical life stretching to take in the new spring air, we should also stretch our spiritual life. A meditative stroll while contemplating a favorite scripture passage can produce insights that only come when a dear friend has been encountered. A rosary prayed while taking in the beauty of nature can generate a calm that only comes from the security of a mother’s presence. The simple repetition of “my Jesus, mercy” spoken while jogging can put one’s problems into perspective and help to clearly see the larger picture.
Additionally, with springtime upon us, we are reminded of an awesome message, “All is made new in God.” The Creator’s love for us is great, so let us love one another.
See you at Mass!
